Chestnuts with honey and rum

I love chestnuts madly! Boiled, roasted, glazed and even raw, chestnuts represent in all respects my favorite season, autumn!

It's just past the time when it was rummaging among the leaves on the ground to find the curls full of chestnuts and, if like me, you have so many collections that you also have to freeze, this gift idea is right for you.

Yes, this delicious recipe will allow you to pack a nice jar of the last seasonal chestnuts, glazed with a fantastic syrup of rum and honey(only for connoisseurs!).

What you need to have (for 500gr of chestnuts):
  • 500 gr chestnuts
  • 100 ml of rum
  • 100 ml of honey
  • 150 gr of sugar
  • 150 ml of water
  • Hermetic jars

METHOD:
  1. Wash the chestnuts well and cut them on one side with a knife.
  2. Boil the chestnuts in boiling water for about 10 minutes.
  3. Then drain and peel the chestnuts, removing also the inner skin.
  4. In a saucepan, melt the sugar in the water and cook until a little foam is formed. Proceed since then to heat up again for a couple of minutes.
  5. Turn off the heat from under the saucepan and pour in the honey (mixing it well with the syrup) and then also the rum.
  6. Pour the chestnuts into the jars and cover them up to the edge with the syrup that you have made.
  7. Seal the jars tightly and boil them in water for about 15 minutes to obtain the vacuum and allow the preservation of chestnuts.
  8. Let the jars cool down by letting them upside down.
  9. Apply a label with the ingredients to the jars.


Before consuming them it is better to let them "rest" for 15 days.
Obviously these chestnuts are perfect for decorating desserts, accompanying cheeses, or simply by spoonfuls!
